Urad Papad or Rice Khichiya: How to Choose for Your Meal

by Jainam Papad 08 Oct 2026

When shopping for papad online, the ingredient base is only one part of the choice. Flavour, piece size, preparation method and pack weight also affect what works for your table. Here is a practical way to compare urad papad and rice khichiya without assuming that every variety cooks or tastes the same.

Start with the product, not just the category

Urad papad is also written as udad papad. Jainam's Handmade Udad Mari Papad offers pepper flavour and comes in 250g, 500g and 1kg packs. Rice khichiya belongs to a different papad selection, with options such as jeera and chilli. The wider khichiya collection also includes wheat, nachni and corn varieties, so read the individual product name and label rather than treating the entire collection as rice-based.

Choose the flavour you want

If you enjoy pepper with your meal, start by comparing udad mari papad options. For cumin flavour in khichiya, browse 5-inch Jeera Khichiya. For chilli flavour, compare Handmade Green Chilli Papad with Green Chilli Khichiya. The chilli name does not tell you a precise heat level; choose a smaller available pack when trying a variety for the first time.

Think about size and serving

Khichiya options include 5-inch and 7-inch products, while disco papdi offers smaller pieces. A larger disc suits a whole-piece accompaniment; smaller pieces may be convenient for sharing. Pack weight and piece count are different measurements. Compare the weight shown on each listing rather than assuming that two packs contain the same number of pieces.

Check the preparation method before buying

Do not assume that every papad or khichiya can be prepared in exactly the same way. Follow the directions on the specific product pack. Our handmade papad roasting guide gives general tawa tips for papad suitable for that method; it does not replace instructions for another variety.

Choose a practical pack size

Start with a smaller listed pack when tasting a new flavour. For a familiar household favourite, compare larger packs and mixed combo selections. Check how you will store the opened pack and use it within its labelled best-before period. Airtight storage helps protect against moisture but does not extend shelf life.

Read the label for dietary needs

Use the ingredient and allergen information on the product label. A rice-based name alone does not establish a gluten-free claim, and neither category automatically means low-calorie or low-fat. If a dietary requirement matters to you, ask Jainam Papad about the specific variety before ordering.

Your next step

Browse handmade papad for urad and other papad flavours, or explore khichiya and disco papdi to compare sizes and varieties. Review the shipping policy and checkout charges before completing your order.
